Most organizations have transformed into digital businesses whose entire existence depends on their ability to manage digital risk. However, Gartner predicts 60 percent of digital businesses will suffer major service failures due to the inability of IT security teams to face today’s wide range of risks online, including malware, data breaches or cyber-physical attacks, just to give a few examples.
Thanks to ESG’s latest global survey on the state of IT, which surveyed 620 IT professionals representing midmarket and enterprise-class organizations in North America and Western Europe, a clearer picture of why so many businesses are vulnerable to digital risk has emerged, with 51 percent of respondents claiming their organization had a problematic shortage of cybersecurity skills, up from 45 percent in 2017.
Estimates state there will be 1.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs worldwide by 2019, and, unless the current trend slows down significantly, the global cybersecurity workforce shortage is on pace to hit 1.8 million by 2022 according to a report conducted by Frost & Sullivan for the Center for Cyber Safety and Education.
“This growing lack of qualified personnel means that organizations have to offer competitive benefits to attract talent, pricing many smaller organizations out of the running for the limited pool of security professionals,” commented network and content security provider Fortinet. “And even at the enterprise level, this skills gap means the talent pool is watered down, making their organization more susceptible to attacks.”
Despite the dwindling pool of available talented security professionals, one-third of hiring managers globally are still planning to increase the size of their departments by 15 percent or more to help combat the growing gap. Bitdefender, a leading global cybersecurity technology company protecting 500 million users worldwide, believes digital businesses should strongly consider alternative ways how to bridge the security skill gap in the workforce.
“Not every gap within your organization’s competencies has to be filled in through hiring. Sometimes the most immediate needs can best be filled by turning to Managed Service Providers, consultants and specialty security services.”
Vology, a trusted Fortinet and Bitdefender partner, has built an outstanding reputation by providing our customers with a full breadth of Managed Security Services and a 24/7/365 Security Operations Center (SOC) designed to protect against every aspect of security and compliance threats, allowing even small to mid-sized businesses (SMBs) without neither the resources nor the staff to defend themselves against today’s online risks to stay safe and thrive.
Our experienced and highly skilled security personnel eliminate the need to hire in-house cybersecurity professionals, whose supply has been on a steady decline for many years now, and who will likely soon be prohibitively expensive for anyone but large enterprises with deep pockets.
