The Questions We Get the Most

Do I need Cisco’s SMARTnet on my hardware?

Cisco’s SMARTnet has three main features:

  1. Hardware Replacement
  2. Software Updates
  3. Technical Support

For hardware replacement, there is never a need for Cisco’s SMARTnet.  Vology’s lifetime warranty comes on every piece of Cisco gear we sell.  If you need 4-hour logistics or onsite field engineering, we can provide a better experience at half the price of Cisco’s SMARTnet.

For software updates, there are some platforms (Routers, Firewalls, Modular Switches …) that you will need to purchase SMARTnet on “at least one device” to access the software library for updates. Fortunately, there is a growing list of products where you can create a free Cisco.com account to download updates:

  • 4500-X
  • 4500 (Sup 7 and above)
  • Catalyst fixed configuration switches including the latest 3850/3650, 3750X, 3560X, 2960X and previous generation E-series, G-series, S-series switches …

As Cisco moves more platforms to Universal IOS images, this list will continue to grow.  Universal IOS has one software image and a Product Activation Key (PAK) is used to enable specific features.

For most customers, calling Cisco for technical support ranks somewhere between going to the dentist and clearing out the rain gutters.  As Cisco has outsourced to partners and overseas, the quality of their offering has dropped off significantly, yet the price continues to increase.  Vology can offer far better 3rd party options that are more responsive and can troubleshoot the whole environment – at half the cost.

Is Vology a Cisco Authorized Reseller?

Absolutely not!  Vology is an Independent Cisco Reseller which means Cisco has no say over what we position and sell.  We are free to focus solely on what’s relevant to YOUR business.

We have NO QUOTAS but the Cisco channel does.

What’s that mean to you?  It means that the channel is incented to sell what works for Cisco, not what works for your business.  For example, positioning a Cisco Catalyst 3850 to your business when you do not intend to use the built in wireless.  Then pushing you to buy SMARTnet when it’s a complete waste of money, for this platform.

That’s what quotas do.  Quotas are designed to enhance Cisco’s business at the expense of your business.

As an Independent Cisco Reseller, we would provide alternate stackable options of the Cisco Catalyst 3750X and 3750E.  Each provides substantial savings over the Cisco Catalyst 3850.  We would also make sure you are aware that there is no need for Cisco SMARTnet on these platforms.  This will save your business between 50%-70%.

Does Vology offer a warranty on it’s Certified Pre-owned Cisco?

Advanced replacement.  For life.

Lifetime Warranty Overview

  • Your certified pre-owned product will be materially free from defects under normal use and service for the life of the product.
  • We will repair your product or provide free advanced replacement if you have a problem with any product under warranty.

Vology’s Terms and Conditions

Standard Lifetime* Warranty Policy

Subject to the terms and conditions set forth below, Vology, Inc., Certified Pre-Owned products and selected new products purchased after September 1, 2011 carry a lifetime warranty for the original purchasers of the products from Vology, Inc. Vology, Inc., warrants to the original purchaser that its Certified Pre-owned Products will be materially free from defects under normal use and service for the lifetime of the product from the date the product is shipped by Vology, Inc. to the customer.

This warranty covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship encountered in normal, reasonable use of the product during the warranty period. This warranty does not apply:

to normal wear and tear;
if the product has been mistreated or mishandled:
if the product has been improperly installed or configured;
if the product has been subject to an accident;
if the product has been subject to lightning, power surges, incorrect electrical voltage, or any electrical  stress
if the product has been subject to an act of God; or,
if the product has been modified.

If a product covered by this warranty is claimed to be defective, the customer must follow the warranty return policy described below. Upon receipt of returned products, Vology, Inc., at its sole discretion, will either choose to repair, replace or issue a credit to the customer’s account. The warranty period for the repaired or replaced product shall terminate upon the termination date of the original warranty period of the defective product.

This warranty does not cover Software products, Key Codes, Voice Mails, batteries, headsets, licenses and Extended Warranty agreements, Service Agreements or Special Order Items.

This lifetime warranty only covers Certified Pre-Owned Cisco Product(s). Certified Pre-owned Avay and Extreme are covered under our 5 year warranty. All partnered manufactures are excluded from this warranty. Our Certified Pre-Owned Product passes a comprehensive physical inspection, is exposed to rigorous refurbishment, is kept in our state-of-the-art warehouse and is stored and sent in quality packaging. Please speak with your Account Manager for any further details.
Warranty Product Return Policy

If a product covered by this limited warranty is claimed to be defective, the end-user customer must request a Return Material Authorization (“RMA”) in accordance with the Returns Procedures set forth below. An RMA request will be approved only if the product is still within the warranty period, and the customer follows the Returns Procedures described below.

The defective product must be received by Vology, Inc., within 30 calendar days from the date the RMA is issued. A defective product received by Vology, Inc. more than 30 calendar days from the date the RMA is issued will not be accepted by Vology, Inc. and will not be eligible for repair, replacement or credit.

Vology, Inc. will only pay the cost of freight for the defective product to be returned to Vology, Inc. if the customer uses the Vology, Inc. approved freight carrier and account number provided in the RMA documentation.

Warranties, Software, Key Codes, Voice Mails, Service Agreements and Special Order Items are not eligible for warranty return. Please contact your sales representative if you have any questions about product eligibility for warranty return.

Customer Return Policy: (Non-Defective Products)

If a customer wishes to return a non-defective product, the customer must request an RMA in accordance with the Returns Procedure below. An RMA request will be approved only within 30 calendar days from the date of original invoice for the purchase of the product. Please contact your sales representative before requesting an RMA.

For all RMA requests for non-defective products, other than an error made by Vology, Inc., a restocking fee of 25% will be charged to the customer. Except in the case of an error made by Vology, Inc., the customer accepts responsibility for the cost of freight (both original and return shipment).

Customers must return the product in the same condition and packaged in the same manner in which it was delivered from Vology, Inc. to the customer. If a product has a manufacturer seal, and the manufacturer seal is broken, the product is not returnable.

Products received after 30 calendar days from the RMA create date will not be accepted by Vology, Inc., and will not be eligible for credit.

Warranties, Software, Key Codes, Service Agreements and Special Order Items are not eligible for return. Please contact your sales representative if you have any questions about product eligibility for return.

IN NO EVENT SHALL VOLOGY, INC.’S LIABILITY UNDER THIS WARRANTY EXCEED THE COST OF REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. THE WARRANTY AND DISCLAIMERS ABOVE CONSTITUTE VOLOGY, INC.’S SOLE AND EXCLUSIVE LIABILITY HEREUNDER AND IS THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY FOR DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS AND IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

IN NO EVENT WILL VOLOGY, INC., OR ITS EMPLOYEES BE LIABLE FOR ANY LOST REVENUE, LOST PROFITS, LOSS OF DATA, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION OR FOR ANY SPECIAL, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, INCIDENTAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, HOWEVER CAUSED AND REGARDLESS OF THE THEORY OF LIABILITY, ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE PRODUCT.

* FOR PURPOSES OF THIS LIFETIME WARRANTY, AND AS A RESULT OF THE NATURE OF THE PRODUCTS COVERED BY THIS WARRANTY, “LIFETIME” IS DEFINED FROM THE DATE THE PRODUCT IS SHIPPED BY VOLOGY, INC. TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER FOR AS LONG AS THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER CONTINUES TO UTILIZE THE HARDAWRE.

Some states do not allow limitations on the length of implied warranties or do not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental and consequential damages, so some of the above provisions may not apply to you. Some states provide for additional warranty rights and remedies. The provisions in this limited warranty are not intended to limit, modify, reduce, disclaim or exclude any mandatory requirements provided by states. This limited warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may have other rights which vary from state to state.

  • Part Number & Quantity
  • Serial Number
  • Reason for Return

Return Shipping Instructions:

  • All equipment must be returned in the same packaging condition in which it was originally delivered and include all accessory items i.e., power supply, cables, line cords, documentation etc. Missing accessories or damaged equipment resulting from substandard packaging will be charged to the customer.
  • All product returns must have the RMA number listed on the return packing slip or external packaging. Please do not write the RMA number on the box.
  • An RMA expires 30 days after it is created. If the RMA expires before the product is received by Vology, Inc., the customer will not be eligible for credit or will incur a processing fee of $150.00 or 7% of sales price.

Can the hardware Vology sells be placed on SMARTnet?

Absolutely. Just request this when making the purchase. We’ve sold hundreds of thousands of units and there has never been an instance where our customers were not able to equip the device with SMARTNet.

It’s rare but every once in a while you may encounter a rogue Cisco rep that doesn’t have your best interest at heart. They’ll use scare tactics and may even threaten your current SMARTNet contracts. Cisco doesn’t condone such poor customer service behavior so you might be able to resolve by escalating to senior management within Cisco.
